An overview of our libraries

Welcome to the Leazes Road Study facility.

The Library at Leazes Road closed over the summer 2020.The books at Leazes Road have been relocated to our Remote Store, and are available by request. Heavy demand items will be relocated to Bill Bryson Library.

Located within the main School of Education building, Leazes Road Study Space provides additional study facilities that are conveniently located for those living in the Gilesgate area and members of Hild Bede College. Printing facilities are also available.

There are over 40 study spaces available to Durham University students, which must be pre-booked and are available Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm until Friday 25 June 2021 for quiet, individual study.

Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee access to power points at your designated study space, and it will be highlighted on your booking confirmation email if your allocated space does not have this access. If you intend to work on a laptop, please make sure it is fully charged before you visit.

You will need your campus card to access the study space from the main entrance of the School of Education, along with confirmation of your booking. 

Please follow all current health and safety measures implemented across our study spaces:

  • you must wear a face covering within our buildings and study spaces, unless exempt. This includes when seated at a study desk.
  • when moving around the building, please follow the route plans marked and maintain social distancing measures of 2metres. 
  • please ensure good hand hygiene - you should wash your hands regularly and use sanitiser on entry and exit of the building and before and after touching or using any books or equipment.
  • please use the study desk you have been allocated – all study spaces are individual – you may not sit adjacent to anyone else, regardless of household groups. 
  • we are operating a clean as you go process – please wipe down all desks before and after use, and put all rubbish in the bins provided. There will be cleaning stations available throughout the building.

Covid Marshals will be on hand to support our safety measures and to help you during your visit. They will greet you as you enter the building and may check your booking confirmation or remind you of our safety measures. They can help you to find your seat and direct you through our one-way systems. They will routinely walk around the building to be available to you and to support the measures we have in place. Please do speak to them if you have any questions or need support - they’re here to help and to make sure we’re all staying as safe as possible.

Cancelling your unwanted booking

If you have made a booking and you decide you don’t need it or are unable to attend, please cancel your booking to allow others to make use of it. We need you to do this as soon as you can to let other students use unwanted study space timeslots. Simply go to the ‘My Bookings’ tab on the Space Bookings app and cancel your booking. 

To support our users requiring study spaces, we have introduced penalties to those who regularly do not use their booked slot.

How to book 

  • Visit our Space Booking system 
  • Select to make an individual booking for the service you require 
  • Select the date you wish to book  
  • Select the space you wish to book, depending on capacity 
  • Select the time you wish to attend from those available 
  • You will then need to validate and confirm your booking before your space is confirmed 
  • You must bring your campus card on the day to be able to access the building
  • You are able to book up until the beginning of the timeslot, or once it has already started (depending on availability).
