An overview of our libraries

The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) opened in September 2019. It provides space for independent study, as well as lectures and teaching activity. 

Bookable individual study space is available on the second floor for students currently on campus for essential use only - visit our Study Spaces guide for more information.

The Library Virtual Enquiry Desk is available if you require any support.

Outside the Teaching and Learning Centre

Study Spaces

Individual study spaces are available at the Teaching and Learning Centre for students who are currently on campus for essential use only.

Currently, you can book the following study spaces per calendar week (Sunday - Saturday):

  • one slot per day and up to five slots per week in the Teaching and Learning Centre for individual study spaces (household study spaces are currently not available).

Visit Us

All colleagues, students, visitors, contractors and members of the public are required to wear a face covering inside all University buildings (unless an individual is exempt from wearing one due to a medical condition). As of 5 January 2021, this includes when seated at a study desk.

All other safety measures should also continue to be followed, including social distancing measures of 2 metres.

The Teaching & Learning Centre is along South Rd, opposite the Lower Mountjoy site.  Use the postcode DH1 3LS if using a SatNav or GPS.  
In the evening and weekends you will need your campus card to scan into the building.

You will need to pre-book to access a study space.

The TLC has its own cafe called Zing, which is open Monday-Friday between 9am-3pm (closed at weekends).

Zing is currently offering wide range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, which you will need to pre-order on a click and collect basis.

This is a clean as you go area - please wipe down any surfaces before and after use, and place all rubbish in the bins provided.

Please note: Due to new Government Guidance, cafe opening hours are subject to change.

There is no visitor car parking, except for disabled parking bays near the entrance. There are bike sheds available.  
Access is on level ground via a power-assisted door. There are disabled parking bays near the main entrance.
