Tutors can now notify the Library of new materials needed to support reading lists to directly from Talis Aspire instead of copying information into a Word template or Excel spreadsheet. This is the most efficient route for requesting new purchases and scanning. If you cannot edit lists on Talis Aspire yet, please email email@example.com to be set up as a list editor.
Durham University Library and Collections aims to facilitate online access to all items of essential reading set for taught modules at all levels of study. We work closely with tutors to achieve this.
We help tutors to check whether suitable online access is available for all items described as ‘essential’, we procure ebooks where available and we scan extracts from our print collections where it is legal to do so.
Students can find a 'Reading List' link in DUO, which will open the module's reading list on Talis Aspire. You should be able to click all essential items described in the online list for your module to be taken to the full text, while selecting titles of background reading will usually take you to the relevant catalogue record to ascertain provision and availability. For background reading it is possible that not all items will be already available in the Library’s collections in 2020-21 due to the impact of Covid-19 on budgets.
