Our services: Using the Library: How much does it cost to borrow or renew?

Current services available

Due to the on-going COVID-19 situation we are predominantly supplying chapters and articles from e-books or e-journals. Only a handful of our usual suppliers are able to make scans from physical items at this time. We are now able to offer a limited lending service, primarily from The British Library.

Delivery times will be longer than usual due to pressures on the supplying libraries and not everything will be available.

How much does it cost to borrow or renew?

Staff and research postgraduates: Your department will pay for your DDS requests and some departments also pay for renewal fees. Check with your department to see if you have a set number of free requests each year.

Taught postgraduates: The Library will pay for your new DDS requests and any renewal fees.

Undergraduates, retired staff and Library visitors: You will need to pay for DDS requests and any renewal fees.  The charges will be added to your Library account once we have received the item from the lending library.  You can pay your charges with cash at the Library, or online via your online library record

Items listed in the Durham University Catalogue as 'missing' will be supplied free of charge. Please write 'Missing from the library' in the 'Notes' field on the request form.
