Our services: Using the Library: How can I renew or cancel an item?

Current services available

Due to the on-going COVID-19 situation we are predominantly supplying chapters and articles from e-books or e-journals. Only a handful of our usual suppliers are able to make scans from physical items at this time. We are now able to offer a limited lending service, primarily from The British Library.

Delivery times will be longer than usual due to pressures on the supplying libraries and not everything will be available.

How can I renew or cancel an item?

Renewals

Some libraries allow renewals, but they are not automatic.  Please complete the renewal form, or email us document.delivery@durham.ac.uk.

Most renewals are free, but there is a £5.00 charge for renewals of books borrowed from the British Library. The yellow bookmark in your book will tell you if there is a renewal charge.  We can renew books that are not needed by other users.

Check our DDS FAQs to see if you need to pay for renewal charges.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel a DDS request, please use this form.

Some requests can be cancelled immediately, but others could take a while to cancel. There are situations when a request cannot be cancelled, for example, if the book has already been posted to the Library.

If you have accidentally made a duplicate request, please let us know as soon as possible.
